Widgety woo

The angle I'm trying to work around at the moment on the technology front are widgets.

Widgets can be thrown straight onto web pages, used in the sidebars of blogs and more. There are as many as there are creative people to imagine them, and with widget services like grazr one can make one's own customisable widgets.

If you want you can even place widgets on your home page which you can use to play games like Super Mario.

I guess I'm seeing these as a way to provide extra content for public library customers - but I want to find out what's reliable and what's not. Like so many things web 2, experimentation and a willingness to take the odd risk is the key.

A little photomanip phun

I had fun with an online tool that takes an image of an old catalogue card and puts custom data on it in an authentic font.

I made a mock card for myself, just for laughs.

Mandala (N013)

Mandala (N013)

My partner, Sally, has been interested in mandalas for a while, so as I was exploring flickr for exercise no. 4 I thought I'd find an interesting mandala to share.

Sally (and myself looking over her shoulder) is experimenting with software which samples her original photographic work and recreates it as a mandala pattern - the technique involves taking a small part of the image and reflecting it on itself.

Unfortunately, Sally hasn't any images online yet - but I have been fortunate enough to find this one, created by Charlotte Self & Kenneth Rougeau. I like blue as a colour, and I like the colour transitions between the coolness of the outer colours and the warmth of the interior.

Hello, blogging!

Here I am doing a blog for the NSL 23 things course.

I've blogged before so I feel confident in this environment.

I've added the Olympic Rings as a picture.
